While it's true that I was on a pillowcase-dress-making kick for a few weeks this summer, the weather has cooled and it won't be suitable for Maren to wear a sundress for about another 9 months. So why, WHY, can't I stop buying pillowcases? I have one daughter to sew for, not six, and I live in Colorado, not Florida! What is wrong with me? I just can't resist them, especially when they're hand-embroidered like those on the top row or brightly colored like that on the far left, or made of linen like the green one, or just printed with pretty sprays of roses in a rainbow of colors, like the yellows and purple? I've been buying them and stashing them in the dresser in the spare room, and when I went to put these away I discovered one more that I recently bought but didn't photograph. Really, it's getting a bit ridiculous. I've long since run out of pillows in this house that need covering. I may have to use the winter months perfecting my pillowcase-dress sewing technique, then list them on eBay next spring, because I just don't think I can go cold turkey and quit buying them!
So pretty! Making them and selling on ebay is probably a good way to wean yourself off of them! I'd love to see a picture of a finished dress. I'm sure they're adorable!
ReplyDeleteI bought two pillowcases after seeing your dresses, so it's definitely catching! Maybe you can come up with another craft idea for them? Something wintery?
ReplyDeleteI can not stop buying them either and I do not even have a suitable thing to do with them! My husband certainly won't want to sleep on one (though I did sneak in a gorgeous vintage Vera pillow case for a few weeks!) and I don't have a daughter! I am thinking too, of making them into dresses and selling them in my esty shop. Be sure to check out www.hopscotchdesigns.com click on vintage and look at the "Megan Dress" below the blankets. I bought one of these for a friend's baby shower and it was the biggest hit!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I totally just bought 8 pillow cases at thrift and put one aside that I thought I'd send to you if you wanted it for a dress for Maren. It's yellow and white striped with this gorgeous border and it's an extra long king pillow size which I thought might be helpful. Let me know when you're back in the mood for the making. :) I do think EBAY is a good idea! Those dresses are darling!
ReplyDeleteI buy a lot of them too. We actually sleep on them, although that makes that their lives rather short lived, I am afraid!
ReplyDeleteI think little girls look adorable in turtlenecks, and you could make the pillowcase dresses in the fall/winter and market them as being versatile: perfect for spring & summer, or wear over a turtleneck in the cooler months. The dresses are so completely charming--it's a shame to make them hibernate!
