Last night I left the Li'l Monster at home with her Daddy and embarked on a Quest...a Quest of mythic proportions, a Quest which I have been on for a good three years now, a Quest which has led to frustration, heartache, and the swearing off of all foods other than celery and sugar-free Jello. The Quest of which I speak: Shopping for blue jeans.
Seriously, why is it so darn difficult for me to find a pair of jeans that don't 1) expose all my bidness when I bend over and 2) make my fanny look a mile wide. What is the deal? I must have tried on a dozen and a half pairs of jeans last night between Ann Taylor LOFT, Old Navy and Talbot's but not one single pair came even close to fitting correctly. I had this same problem last fall and that is why I'm still wearing the jeans I bought back in 2005, but they are now too short and generally looking shabby. I can't wear them for another year, so this year my Quest has taken on more urgency than before.
I appeal to you, dear blog friends--where can I go to find good jeans? In addition to the stores I went to last night, I know that I don't care for Gap jeans, but other than that I don't know where to look. I'm not looking for anything crazy--mid-rise, dark wash, flare or boot-cut (no skinny straight jeans for these thighs), under $100 a pair. Sounds easy, right? Help!
Hi, HEIDI!! Yes, 16 days! :)
ReplyDeleteIn response to your question on my blog...I'm in an ATC swap, one of the first ones started. I may make a few extras to trade with people not in groups. That's a great idea!
I can't wait to meet you, either! :)

Heidi - I absolutely feel your pain regarding the blue jean nightmare maybe it is the Mott "genes" that make it hard to find "jeans". I recently found some at OLD NAVY (the sweatheart) supposedly classic cut, but they ended up midrise on me. They were $30.00 a pair and acually fit better than most I have tried. If you haven't tried this cut, then you might consider it. I still have to wear a belt or long shirts to qvoid the "plumber's butt syndrome", however. I am still tracking down pics of Robyn and Maren at Kendra's wedding. I will let you know if I am successful!! Good luck and love to read your blog!!! Love ya! Stacey
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the package! I had fun putting it together.
ReplyDeleteI have the hardest time with jeans too - who doesn't! The best fit that I've found for myself is from White House Black Market. I like their Blanc fit. They are pricey but under $100 and sometimes you can catch them on clearance. Definitely worth a try on.
I can't believe I am even admitting this, but I found two great pairs of jeans at JC Penny of all places. Gloria Vanderbilt. The only thing. . . they don't come in the short size. :(
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Lee jeans? I haven't had a pair of those in years, but I see on the adds that they are redesigned and I am thinking about hunting them down myself. Another brand I have had luck with is Gloria Vanderbelt. Sometimes I find them at Macys.
ReplyDeleteI would google Lee and see what stores sell them. Also, Sears sells Lands End now and that might be good.
You may or may not have noticed on my blog that I recently discovered a pair of the offensive "Mom jeans" in my closet. So take my advice with your own discretion. (Though in my own defense, I had not actually WORN them for years.) I just bought a pair of Gap jeans at the Outlet that I love. For like $34.00! (Get two!)They are the "curvy" fit, but I also love their Boot cut. They are really dark, and have some stretch. This all discloses far too much about my own personal issues with jeans. I have given up looking great, and settled this week for a pair I could get on, and stay poured into. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteBanana Republic!!! You didn't mention your figure type...but the boot cuts come in all 3 lengths, a dark/even wash, and have a tad of stretch. Plus, they last forever!
ReplyDeleteKohls has a bunch of brands - Lee, Gloria Venderbilt, Dockers, Levis, and their own. Maybe you'll be lucky there. If you have a Steve and Barry's I LOVE their jeans. They are cheap and need to be replaced yearly or every other but they fit me like a glove (in a nice way!) I also know tons of women who swear by Kmart's Route 66 jeans. I've been meaning to check them out myself.
ReplyDeleteGood luck,
LA
I like Banana Republic too, but my two favorite pairs came from The Buckle. I know, I know... it's a crazy thought. But, if you have the patience to wade through all the piles and the 'crack showers' you might find something. I have super short legs, so I like that they have lengths included in thier sizing.
ReplyDeleteHeidi,
ReplyDeleteCouldn't resist delurking here. You might try the website http://www.zafu.com/ You answer 8 questions or so about your body type and how jeans typically fit your body and it comes up with a whole list of suggestions for you - most of which can be purchased online. Good luck hunting!

I used to get all of my jeans at Express. They had styles for girls with hips, which I loved. I'm sure they still do. I actually switched to GAP jeans a couple of years ago, their "long and lean" style, despite the fact that lean has never been a good descriptor for me. And I second the Banana option. Especially if you can find them on sale.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fellow Sweet Goodness Swapper who's been lurking at your blog for a while. I used to have GREAT luck finding jeans at Eddie Bauer.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so into them right now as I'm pregnant with my second in less than two years! It seems like I'm living in maternity jeans!
I really like the fact that they carry everything in stores so you CAN try it on. And they cater to women, not juniors like the Gap and Old Navy. Generally, their stuff is cut more to fit people with real curves.
Good Luck!

ReplyDeleteWhat yummy goodies you received!!! Sequined felt skirts under aluminum trees? Well ,it just wouldn't be X-mas at my house without those two!

Try both Ross and Marshalls if you have them. They have both junior styles and misses styles in both current seasons and sometimes STILL very stylish past seasons. The price is definitely right, and they have an awesome assortment of brands. You should probably be able to find something there, but if not try the current seasons Lee jeans(look on-line for stores) for her. They are fashionable and comfortable and conservative. I would call that the holy trinity of jeans!

I got something pretty in the mail .....
You're not alone in that blue jeans quest. I know the style is to have that really low rise but being someone who not5 only shouldn't have that much stuff hanging out I also have a high waist so regular rise is too low on me. Anyway, I wish I had help for you but I wear a plus size and get my jeans at either Lane Bryant or in the Macy's woman's section. They are made by Seven and are a nice fit but I don't know about the regular sizes at the Macys.
ReplyDeleteLove your tree skirts! What a thoughtful gift!
I refuse to pay high $$$ for blue jeans! Or any of my clothes...I'm just too cheap! I swear by Lee Riders. They come in mid rise and you can get boot cut or straight. They fit me really well and are NOT expensive! Shoot, you can find them at that horrible Walmart if you want! : ) Good luck shopping!

Heidi,
ReplyDeleteEmail me if you can. I don't have your address with me on vacation.

I love love love the Editor trouser jeans from Express. I can't wear the skinny jeans because they give me that oh-so-attractive saddle bag look. Trouser jeans can be dressy or casual. I wear them to work and on the weekends. They are made for women with hips and butts! I haven't bought a pair of 'conventional' jeans for 3 years now.
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled across your blog. Love the job you did with the necklace hanger. Very pretty.indeed. Had a nice time reading through your blog. Do visit me at www.vintagedelights.gmail.com

I totally understand the jean frustration!! It's such a pain. But I do agree with andie. The curvy jeans from Gap are the best. I always have a problem with my jeans fitting in my legs and being too big around the waist, and those are the best!!
ReplyDeleteI was recenelty surpised to find some great fitting jeans at Coldwater creek for $79.00 a piece, but they often have their's on sale and they also come in diffent fits. If you do not have a store near you try the oline website.
ReplyDeleteHi I'm new to your blog.
ReplyDeleteI HATE buying jeans! I find a style that I like and then buy, or order a few more pairs and they never fit me the same! So I end up with one pair that I like. Right now I wear American Eagle Hipster jeans.
I love J.Jill jeans. Dark bootcut and made for women. They are nice and long. I think they call them authentic fit.
ReplyDeleteI buy my jeans at Target for around $35. Now I know Target Australia and Target US are completely different companies (rats to that!) but you might find the jeans are just as good there...
