Friday Fiver and Attack of the Giant Snack Foods

First, the Friday Fiver:

1. Where do you like to walk? On the beach. Because I live in a land-locked state, this unfortunately doesn't happen very often.

2. What does your hair look like? You're familiar with Sideshow Bob, right? No, only kidding--it's not quite that bad! At the moment it does look slightly napped-upon, though. My hair is long and brown and curly. I'm completely bored with it, so I'm hoping to get in for a cut & highlight sometime soon.

3. What are you jealous of? The gorgeous homes I see featured in Country Living magazine. The ones with a perfect mix of quirky antiques and comfortable, homey furnishings. The ones decorated with charming vignettes that my toddler would destroy in 3.8 seconds flat.

4. What kind of promises do you make? I promise to only read one more blog and then I'll go do something productive. Swear.

5. What makes you stare? My handsome husband in uniform. My daughter when she's laughing. Women who are 63 who dress like they are 23.

And now, I have to share with you a website that has kept me amused for the better part of a week. I first found Pimp That Snack through Baking Bites. Earlier this year she was inspired by PTS and made a giant Hostess cupcake cake. I have a secret, shameful love for Hostess snack cakes so naturally, this caught my eye. That led me to Pimp That Snack, a website devoted to people who are determined to make gigantic versions of candy and snack foods for no other reason than just because they can. I haven't read all the archives yet but so far my early favorites are the Giant Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, these enormous Gummi Bears, and a ridiculously large Cadbury Creme Egg.

The site is British so some of the candy bars and treats may be unfamiliar to you, unless you are like me and became intimately acquainted with every type of candy bar available during my Study Abroad stay in London. (Incidentally, we had SUCH a problem with those British dryers shrinking our pants....I'm sure it had NOTHING to do with the aforementioned candy bars. I'm fairly certain that when an American eats British candy, most of the calories get lost in the conversion from the metric system. Ahem.) Anyway, if you need a good way to kill some time at work or avoid loading the dishwasher again, hop on over to Pimp That Snack for a fun read.

Tomorrow Maren is going to her first birthday party! Her little friend Abby is turning 3 and Abby's mom is bravely throwing a party and inviting other children. I've been telling Maren about it since the invitation came last week and she is SO excited! She keeps asking if it is time to go to Abby's party yet. Then provided I can find a babysitter, Quin and I are off on a hot date to see this. I can't wait! Hope you all have a fun weekend!

  3. My personal favorites are Cadbury Fudge and Curly Wurlys. Luckily, my MIL sends care packages from the UK on a semi-regular basis. Now that I know about the calorie loss due to conversion, I'll have to encourage her to send more!

  4. Heidi! What have you done??? Do you not understand how deep my love and devotion to the Cadbury Egg is? Do you not know how many of them I ate at Christmas when they were disguised as Christmas "ornaments"??? Oh.my.word. A giant, 10,000 calorie Cadbury egg.

  8. SIDESHOW BOB! Bwha. I'm dying!

#1- Because it is NOT true. And I can say this because now I've actually seen it in person.

    and...

#2- During an unfortunate stint with spiral perming in High School my brother often referred to me as the girl from the Dilbert comic.
