Happy Presidents' Day

Happy Presidents Day! In honor of the holiday I wanted to show you some close-ups of the adorable little candy container that Amy Bauer included in my Valentine's Day box.

It's tiny--the whole thing is only about 2.5" tall and I believe it's made out of a toilet paper tube. In case you can't tell from the photo, it's meant to be a little tiny log decorated with faux cherries and a wee axe, all to commemorate the famous story about George Washington chopping down the cherry tree. Unfortunately, the axe got a bit mangled in the hands of a curious 2-year-old (seriously, is every toddler as utterly destructive as mine or did I just get lucky?) but you get the idea.

Here's a view of one end of the little container. What's so darn cute about the box is that it looks like a real piece of wood! The ends have tree rings and the middle part looks like bark. Amy even cut the ends of the bark paper with deckled-edge scissors--nice attention to detail.

And the best part? The treats inside! Amy filled mine with chocolate-covered cherries. The box is just big enough for two little chocolates. I absolutely adore it and want to make a whole forest of my own next year. Thanks again, Amy!

  2. You are not alone. Jack can tear up anything and everything, and do it within about 30 seconds.

  3. Ingenius!

I think all three year olds are destructos. I always find it amazing he supposedly needs work on his fine motor skills. Really? Not around the house, he doesn't.

    Cheers! LA

  4. Wow--that is a truly unique idea!! How cute!

It's taken a few years but finally I can keep my what nots somewhat in tact from the destructive little hands. But when he does make a mess--it's a big one to coincide with his age. Ummmmm try cleaning up a whole container of candle wax that was melting on a warmer-knocked over from an indoor game of ball!! Wax splatters over everything in the entire kitchen! LOL

  5. I'm so glad you liked my little log! I was really happy with the way they turned out. I made one of these for each child in my daughter's class last year and had a few extra. They are, indeed, crafted from toilet paper rolls. - Amy

Wow. Such great details on this little log candy box!

Carter broke my vintage ceramic soap dish, in the bathroom, just moments before I hopped on your blog! Ugh! It had roses on it, and I loved it. You are so not alone! :)

  9. and yes...they are all that destructive. You're not alone. I should post what is currently left of my anniversay roses :) At least I got a picture of them.

  10. I'm afraid it doesn't always end with the toddler years either. Some of my third graders are very *zealous* in their exploration of new things. I have quite a few torn books to prove it.

Can't believe how well your graphic matches the finished product! What did she use for the ends of the tube?

  11. That is amazing, and don't worry all small kids are destructive. take it from the mom of the crown wearing princes who takes it upon herself to act truly royal and trash everything in her path.
