Thanks for sharing my excitement about my Jadeite find! Here's what I've done with it:

There is a shelf over the pantry door in my kitchen so I put most of the pieces up there along with a few of another collection, my sunburst Ovenex pans. I like it, but it's a little boring, right? It needs some red but I'm not sure how to add that in. What I had up there before was a row of old blue glass canning jars and then I folded some old printed dishcloths into points and had those hanging over the edge, overlapping. Maybe I could do something similar with squares of fabric? Red gingham, maybe? I'd love to hear your suggestions!
I've been on an eBay binge now for a few weeks. Unfortunately it's a buying binge, not a selling binge, which is the kind of binging I really need to do. It was love at first sight when I found this cute sign:

It's a reproduction, but cute nonetheless. It's red, has a heart, looks old and mentions cupcakes so that meant I pretty much HAD to buy it, right? (And let's not even mention my secret shame LOVE for Hostess snack cakes.) I rearranged my kitchen counters so now it lives next to Ruby the red KitchenAid and they make a cute couple. Unfortunately, the eBay seller was lousy and the sign arrived 1) very late and 2) slightly bent due to his poor packing job, so if any of you are looking to buy one of these, contact me and I'll tell you who NOT to buy from.
Who watched the Project Runway finale last night? I knew Christian would win based on his work for the whole season and I think he's incredibly talented and he deserved it, even if he is an arrogant little twerp. I did like Rami's runway collection the best out of the three and I think he'll have a successful career dressing movie stars for red-carpet events. His gowns were gorgeous! Jillian's collection was such a letdown for me--I loved her work all season long, but I thought her stuff last night was ugly and just totally blah. Too bad. Tonight I have a busy evening of "LOST" watching scheduled because I have to catch up on last week's show as well.
Tomorrow I have a few crafty projects to share!
That sign is the bomb! Do the kids still say that?
ReplyDeleteLove that green above the door! SO cute.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with every single sentiment you have on Project Runway last night. I stayed up till 11:00 to catch it all. Though, I'd be lying if I didn't tell you, Christian's "twerpy-ness" has pretty much made the season for me.
"I need a VAY!-CAY! I'm taking a breaky break."
Too funny!
Oh, and did anyone else notice he told Tim in the last episode that he drags his bed out into his closet to sleep, and then in the next shot there was a full on bedroom with a queen size in teh background? AND... Did anyone else notice that he didn't have any friends or family for Tim to visit.?
I actually like Mr Fierce. There is an interesting interview with Chris March around somewhere (that I sadly have no link to), where he said they protrayed the kid as a lot more obnoxious than he really is.
ReplyDeleteI think the pans take away from the Jadeite. And I think if you want to add fabric of some sort, you should try a sort of scalloped edging. I think martha had a good thing project like that once, but her website is so full I cannot seem to find it.
Loved Project Runway. All three were fabulous final contestants. Of course Mr. Fierce would win. I think Rami will make awesome gowns for the red carpet one day. Loved that black dress!. So original.
ReplyDeleteNow on to watching American Idol top 12 tonight.
Love the Jadeite collection.
It's funny--I didnt' like jillian's clothes all season but then I liked her collection the best last night. But then i knew CHristian was going to win, and I wont' say he didn't deserve it. That is strange about no family or friends.
ReplyDeleteI agree the shelf looks too full. Fabric would help soften it probably.
Hi, Heidi!
ReplyDeleteOk, I went to Ebay and found another of those cupcake signs and BOUGHT it! haha That is the cutest thing ever! Can't wait to have it in my kitchen. :)
Thank you!!
Jennifer
I'm headed over to ebay to look for the sign too. Since DH is the Hostess Cake Delivery Dude, I have a small collection of Hostess/Wonderbread signs already. But, I haven't seen that one before.
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching Lost. And as usual, nothing makes since. I'm sort of starting to like Ben though - in a funny way. This cannot be good!
Off I go to shop....;o)
I just love the Jadeite! Now I'm going to start thrifting for great stuff--I've been reading so many blogs where they make great finds. I hope I can develop a good "eye" for it--you clearly seem to have it.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a Pyrex mixing bowl I got for my mother-in-law a few Christmases ago. I think it was a jadeite repro. I remember thinking how much I loved it, and every time I see it full of my m-i-l's famous potato salad, I find myself coveting that bowl!
You know, I was totally thinking red gingham, give the fabric squares a shot, you might like it! :) Plus if you don't just sew them up into napkins or do the Martha thing where you sew the squares on three sides and slip a cork trivit inside.
ReplyDeleteOkay, my mind is rolling and I'm babbling LOL.
Love the sign! I'm coming over to buy cupcakes. ;)
That shelf with the jadeite is so pretty it's making my eyes hurt. I do frequently see jadeite with touches of red decor and it does look nice. I think gingham might be nice too, maybe as a shelf trim?
ReplyDeleteWOW! You really scored with that jadeite purchase! What great items. Love the cup cakes sign too! Sounds like you had a great trip. - Amy B
ReplyDeleteI would like to see you put that beautiful Jadeite with only a couple of your pans, but also add in the Hostess sign along with some of your red painted handles utensils, and go with Rebecca's idea of red gingham fabric on the shelf. Throw some red flowers in the vase, too!
ReplyDeleteYou scored sooo big time with that Jadeite purchase. Hooray for you!
Oh I love jadeite. Modern jadeite pieces are my favorite cooking bowls and pie plates. The cupcake sign is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteThe shelf looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love those pans! I've never seen them before. A very fun collection. What you really need for a nice pop of red is to put some fresh red flowers in some of the jadeite. That would be a good assignment for your husband. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe cupcake sign is adorable too.
