A stroller request and new (old) treasures!
Dear blog friends, I need your help. I'm in the market for a new umbrella-type stroller but I need it to have one particular feature: adjustable handles! The handles on our previous stroller were so short that it was inevitable that you'd end up with a backache after pushing it for even a short while. I know there are stroller manufacturers out there that offer height-adjustable handles and I've done some internet research but haven't been able to come to a consensus on which one is the best buy. I do know that Maclaren makes strollers with adjustable handles, but they're far more than I'd like to pay--my budget is about $60. Do any of you have any experience with a stroller like this that you loved or hated that you'd like to share? I'm hoping to purchase one *soon* for our Disneyland trip in a few weeks. I didn't think it would be this hard to find one, or I would have started looking months ago! I'd appreciate any input you may have.

I've been on the lookout for some old trophies for a while now with no luck--and I'm even willing to pay antique store prices--so finding these two little treats was exciting! I put them next to each other to see which one I liked better, then decided that they look so great together it would be a shame to split up the pair. They both came home with me! One is from 1957 and the other is 1955-56, and I believe they're both darts trophies from different British pubs.
Here is a wide shot of the entire display atop my china cabinet. It has been like this since after Christmas and I like it so much that I hate to change it, even for Easter. Three whole months may be the longest I've ever gone without rearranging! My sweet little trophies add just the right touch of sparkle. :)

have you tried posting a request on freecycle or craigslist for a adjustable maclaren? I am on the double stroller hunt, have narrowed it down to about 5 that I like. good luck:)
ReplyDeleteLove love love the two trophies...what great finds! As far as the stroller...I am still using the GRACO strollers...you know, the cadillac kind? I think the last bloggers suggestion of craigslist would be a great place to start...or the paper?
ReplyDeleteYour display with the globe, suitcase, etc, is awesome, too by the way!
I'd buy this stroller:

Love your china top - such fun things. Your old suitcase looks like the KU one I bought this weekend. It has so much character. I don't think I ever see any nice trophies (if you want gold bowling trophies*, I see those a lot), but if I ever do, I will pick them up for you!
ReplyDelete*I am KIDDING about the bowling trophies! Eeeeeeew!
Well, you are probably not going to like my answer on the stroller, but here it goes:
ReplyDeleteBuy the maclaren. We finally bought one when Jack was like 2, and that thing is the mack daddy of strollers. Even big heavy kids are SO easy to push in it, it turns on a dime, and the handles are perfect. (We dont have an adjustable one, just the volo I think? Its plenty tall enough, even for my 6'1 husband.)
Besides, you are going to have another babbyyyyyyeeeeeeee and will certainly get plenty of use out of it.
Ok, I checked, and it is a volo. We bought ours at babies r us, and there are sometimes coupons floating around. I saw one at albee baby for $100, but I could swear we paid in the $80 range.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I would suggest a Maclaren too. BUT, here's the thing. . . you don't have to buy the high end one with the adjustable handles. Their less expensive models are PLENTY tall. Trust me. You know how tall Ben & I are. I have NEVER gotten a back ache pushing ours around. They ARE a little more than $60, but you will not regret it.
ReplyDeleteWe have this one http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2511554
and I LOVE it.
But, their less expensive ones still have tall handles, if I remember right. I was seriously impressed with how tall they are without being adjustable.
Thanks Heidi, now you've turned me on to another collection!! Like I need another!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun finds!
And love the display.
I have a suggestion. I'm pretty sure that The Right Start (www.rightstart.com) has stroller extenders which turns a regular height stroller into one made for taller people. Unfortunately, their site is down right now. But maybe you can check it out later.
ReplyDeleteWe have a MacLaren that we found at GW. Or you can look on Craigslist for a bargain, but you already know that. :-)
Okay, One Step Ahead has it. (Maybe Right Start went out of business?) Anyway, here is the link:

Ebay has tons of 'stroller handle extenders' for sale so you could choose any stroller you liked.
ReplyDeleteLove the trophies! Your display looks great.
ReplyDeleteNo suggestions on the stroller, sorry!
ReplyDeleteYour display looks great!
And thanks about the soap! They were really easy!
