Tuesday thrift find: Oyster plates

I've never eaten an oyster and I never intend to do so (although I love most other seafood) but I was tickled to find three of these beautiful old oyster plates at Goodwill recently! The glaze is perfectly crazed and crackly and I love the relief images of mermaids and King Neptune around the edges. I had thought about selling them but as it happens too often, I got attached and now they're going to live here for a while! At least two of them will end up on my wall--wish I could have found a fourth and then they'd all be hung up. That reminds me, I need to measure them and buy some plate hangers so I can get them up on the wall!

As of yesterday I hit the one-month countdown mark until my due date and as of Thursday I'm officially 36 weeks. I can tell I'm really slowing down in terms of energy (it's only noon and I've already had a nap today) and I'm getting really frustrated at the physical limitations my big belly and swollen extremities are causing me. I'm pretty ready to NOT be pregnant anymore but at the same time we still have lots to do to get ready for a new baby around here so baby can't come just yet!

We moved Maren into a new bedroom and I've been working on that since last week, but it's been slow going given my lack of energy and physical awkwardness. Thankfully, my parents came to visit over the weekend and helped us install a closet system in her new room, something that helped us immensely. I've been trying to get her things all organized in her new space so that we can start on the baby's room next. I keep waiting for that burst of nesting energy to kick in but so far I haven't seen it!

  1. That is a lovely plate. Maybe you could use it to serve differnt sauces for something? Or to keep your jewelry organized?

I remember the 8th month of being pregnant with my first son (I dont remember it as much with my second. Guess I was too busy running after the first!). I remember being sooooo tired and wanting to be totally organzied before he arrived. And I remember being HOT because it was July. I would lay around in my husband's t-shirts because it was the only thing that would fit me and watch 30 Minute Meals on the TV. *sigh*.

    Thanks doll,

  2. Bless your heart, Miss Heidi. I wish we could all come in through the computer and get your house all ready for you. All you would have to do is lay on the couch and point us in different directions. I'll bring you ice cream and pickles and anything else you need!

*Can we pleeeeeze see a belly shot?

  4. WOW! only one month left!! It has gone by really quick (for those of us in blog land anyways!) Glad to hear that you aren't getting 'oyster cravings' - you had me worried for a bit!

  5. Only one more month...Yay!! I am sure the time is definitely starting to pass VERY slowly now!! I was so miserable the last month so I can certainly feel your pain!! I am excited to meet your new little man! Jax is so much happier on formula and I am so happy I made the switch. He is still a bit of a screamer but babies do cry. I just remember making a deal with him while I was pregnant that he would sleep through the night and never cry...I guess he forgot about our agreement on the way out :)

  6. I do not think that I have ever seen an oyster platter at the thrift, but I am quite land-locked so it makes sense.

I never nested as much as I did during my first pregnancy and I was never really ready to be done being pregnant either! Alas, now it has been so long that the longing has subsided and for that I am glad.

I suppose it is safe to assume that you are not doing any vacuuming in high heels though, right:)!

  7. The nesting urge WILL come, but what crazy instinctual need you have may or may not be what you wish...For baby #1 it was decorating a cute nursery...by baby #2 I had ALREADY decorated and for the 1st time in my ENTIRE life I had this overwhelming need to bleach My floors!!! My hubs just went with it... I swear I damaged them a bit with the bleach!
